Dear Tipperary Supporter

Munster Senior Hurling Championship

From Tipperary GAA Scene by Jonathan Cullen, County Board PRO

Next Sunday in FBD Semple Stadium will see our senior hurlers play their last game of the Munster round robin series when Cork come to town. Last weekends results now mean that Tipperary can still qualify for the All Ireland series which gives this game huge significance. Early signs are that our opponents will bring a large support and we are encouraging all Tipperary supporters to come and show your support for our players in their home venue. Tickets fpr the game are available via the following link: https://www.ticketmaster.ie/event/18005C7EB7266BFD and also in selected Centra and SuperValu stores. Tickets are priced as follows – Adult Stand: €25, Student/OAP Stand: €20, Juvenile Stand: €5, Adult Terrace: €20. Please remember to purchase your tickets before arriving at the stadium and note that tickets will not be on sale on the stiles on the day of the game. A Cork win would see them take third place. A Tipperary win would revive their chances of taking third spot, but only if Waterford lost to Clare. Last five championship meetings 2020: Tipperary 2-18 Cork 1-17 (All-Ireland qualifier) 2019: Tipperary 2-28 Cork 1-24 (Munster ‘round robin’) 2018: Tipperary 2-20 Cork 1-23 (Munster ‘round robin) 2017: Cork 2-27 Tipperary 1-26 (Munster quarter-final) 2014: Tipperary 2-18 Cork 1-11 (All-Ireland semi-final) The teams meet in the championship for the 89th time, with Tipperary leading 41-38 in wins. There have also been eight draws and one abandoned game. Cork are seeking their first championship win over Tipperary since the 2017 Munster quarter-final. Tipperary have won twice since then while there has also been a draw.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship

Huge congratulations to our Minor hurling players and management on being crowned the 2022 Munster minor hurling champions following a titanic battle with Clare in the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick last Wednesday evening, May 11th. Played in front of over 4000 supporters this game had everything including extra time and the dreaded penalty shootout. The outpouring of joy following the signalling of the final whistle was very special and the performance of all the players gives great encouragement to everyone going forward. Tipperary have now qualified for an All Ireland semi final meeting with either Galway or Laois in the coming weeks.

Munster Senior Football Championship

Our senior footballers played Limerick in the Munster semi final at FBD Semple Stadium last Saturday evening, May 14th and in what can only be described as a below par performance they had to give second best to a very determined Limerick side who will now play Kerry in this year’s final. Tipperary will now compete in the newly launched Tailteann Cup which was officially launched in Croke Park on Monday last and was attended by Tipperary’s Teddy Doyle of Ballina. The draws for the preliminary round and round 1 also took place and resulted in an away tie against Carlow for David Power’s charges. This game will take place on the weekend of May 28th / 29th.

Munster Minor Football Championship

Our minor footballers will be in action this Thursday evening when they will play Cork in the semi final of the Munster Minor Football Championship. FBD Semple Stadium is the venue and throw in will be at 7pm. Tickets for this game are available online via the Munster GAA website. We wish team manager John McNamara and the panel of players the very best of luck as they aim to reach this years final.

FBD Insurance County Leagues

Hurling took centre stage last weekend with another full round of games across all the various divisions of the County league and the way is almost cleared now for the staging of this year’s semi finals which are scheduled to take place on the weekend of May 29th with all games being fixed by the CCC in the coming days. In Division 1 Borris-Ileigh will play neighbours Drom & Inch, while Toomevara will play Clonoulty Rossmore in the second semi final. The Division 2 semi finals will see Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill face either Gortnahoe-Glengoole or Templederry Kenyons, while Moycarkey Borris will play Roscrea. In Division 3 the semi final pairings will be Sean Treacys v Burgess or Silvermines and Ballina v Lorrha Dorrha, while in Division 4 Skeheenarinky play Borrisokane and Moyle Rovers play Boherlahan Dualla.

This weekend the attention turns to round 5 of the county football league which will see a total of 9 games being played across the two divisions of the league. Tipperary Coaching and Games Development

Congratulations to our 26 new referees “young whistlers” who completed the course on Thursday evening last in Dr Morris Park, Thurles. This group of referees are ready to take up the whistle and play a major role in our “Go Games” match program at County and divisional level.

Special thanks to our county referees committee with their assistance, and to Conor Doyle, David Grogan and Jim O Shea for their valuable insight and assistance with the course delivery. Let’s hope these young whistlers have an enjoyable experience and continue their referee educational journey.

Tipperary Clubs Draw

The May draw was held in Hogans Bar Ballysloe last Friday evening and was hosted by the Gortnahoe-Glengoole Club. The top prize on the night which was a car or €15,000 went to North Tipperary and was was won by Kiladangan’s James Kelly. Second prize of a €5000 holiday voucher did not have to travel very far either as the lucky winners were Liam and Mary Hogan who are joined with the Shannon Rovers club. This months lotto jackpot was not won which means that there will be €4000 on offer in June. We congratulate all this months winners and once again we thank all members for your continued support.
