Well done to Tipperary’s senior hurlers on their 2-24 to 1-16 victory over Limerick IT in the preliminary round of the Waterford Crystal Cup at Dolla on Sunday last. Three players made their competitive debuts for Tipperary on Sunday – Donagh Maher (Burgess) who started at corner back, and David Collins (Drom and Inch) and Johnny Ryan (Drom and Inch) who both came on as second half substitutes. Well done to the Silvermines club on the excellent arrangements they had in place for the teams and supporters at Dolla for the game. Tipperary will play University of Limerick in the 1st round on Sunday February 5th. The venue has not been confirmed yet. Interestingly 5 Mahers were on the starting lineout for Tipperary last Sunday – brothers Donagh and Shane from Burgess, Padraic from Thurles Sarsfields, Brendan from Borris-Ileigh and Patrick “Bonnar” from Lorrha and Dorrha. It is almost 70 years ago back in 1943 that so many Mahers featured on a Tipperary panel – that yea r there were 6 on the panel – James, Dan and Sonny Maher from Boherlahan Dualla and John, Martin and Micheal Maher from Thurles Sarsfields.
