Dear Tipperary Supporter

BGE ALL IRELAND U20 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
From Tipperary GAA Scene by Joe Bracken, County Board PRO

The Tipperary U20 hurling team continued the recent run of success for the county with a comprehensive 8-16 to 1-15 defeat of Wexford in the Bord GáisEnergy All-Ireland semi-final last Sunday, before an attendance of 4,543 in Nowlan Park. That result signals another meeting between Tipperary and Cork in the final which will be played on the weekend of August 24/25. The Tipperary goals on Sunday came from Jake Morris (Nenagh Éire Óg, 1-5), Andrew Ormond (JK Brackens, 2-1), Billy Seymour (Kiladangan, 2-1), Jerome Cahill (Kilruane MacDonaghs, 2-1) and Sean Hayes (Kiladangan, 1-1).

Congratulations to Jerome Cahill (Kilruane MacDonaghs), right, who was named BGE man of the match following his superb performance at midfield.

With only a puck of a ball the difference between Tipp and Cork in previous matches, the upcoming final will be eagerly anticipated. And if the last splendid offering in the Munster Final is anything to go by, supporters are in for a real treat in a few weeks’ time. For now, however, it’s down to business for Liam Cahill’s team as they prepare for their greatest battle yet, when they line out to confront the Rebels for the second time in as many months. Denis Ring’s side will be looking to exact revenge on a Premier unit that deprived them of silverware in Munster recently and also in the U21 All-Ireland final last year.

ALL-IRELAND SHC FINAL

The build-up is well and truly under way for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final between Tipperary and Kilkenny which will take place on Sunday week, August 18th in Croke Park where throw-in will be at the customary time of 3:30pm. With 27 previous championship meetings between the sides, game number 28 will be as intriguing as any that has gone before. An expectant public await the contest.

MEET AND GREET

The open training session – meet and greet with the Tipperary senior hurlers held in Semple Stadium last week will go down long in the memory as one of those remarkable occasions where players, management and supporters alike revelled in the warmth and glow of this uniqueoccasion. An estimated attendance of 7,000 supporters, which transcended all expectations, watched attentively as the panel was put through its paces on the Field of Legends before leaving the field for a brief moment to the chants of Tipp, Tipp, Tipp, and then returning, for up to an hour and a half, signing autographs and having photos taken with as many boys and girls as possible among all the appreciative supporters.

It was a brilliant night and one made special by the thousands of supporters who flowed through the Semple Stadium flood gates from early evening, to get up close and personal with their hero’s, as they start preparations for the greater challenge of trying to penetrate the Kilkenny dam on August 18th. For now though calm is restored and energy levels are being primed before the hurricane of battle on its appointed date.
