Congratulations to Munster on winning the M. Donnelly Inter-provincial hurling final by defeating Connaught by 1-22 to 0-15 at Cusack Park Ennis on Sunday. Munster were managed by Liam Sheedy and Brendan Maher captained the side in place of the injured Shane McGrath. Other Tipperary players on Sunday’s panel were: Lar Corbett, Patrick Maher, Brian O’Meara, Pa Bourke, Paul Curran and Eoin Kelly. Tipperary members of the backroom team were: John Casey (chartered physiotherapist), Mick Clohessy (masseur), John “Hotpoint” Hayes (kit man) and Ed Donnelly (match stats). Well done to all involved with this success. The sponsorship of Clare’s Martin Donnelly should also be acknowledged – he is a great supporter of the GAA. To see a photo of the Tipperary players and management and to read a match report go to www.tippsupportersclub.com .

Congratulations to UCC, managed by former Thurles Sarsfields and Tipperary player, Eddie Enright, on retaining the Fitzgibbon Cup colleges hurling title with a victory over first time finalists Mary Immaculate College Limerick in Galway last Saturday. Well done also to the Tipperary players on the UCC panel – Stephen Maher (Thurles Sarsfields), Bobby Bergin (Clonakenny), Liam Butler (Moyne Templetuohy), James Barry (Upperchurch Drombane), Dan McCormack (Borris-Ileigh) and Pat Lupton (Drom and Inch).

Congratulations are also due to two Tipperary colleges LIT Tipperary and St. Patrick’s College Thurles. LIT Tipperary won the Ryan Cup by defeating Tralee IT by 1-14 to 2-9. They are managed by Tipperary senior hurler, Brendan Maher of Borris-Ileigh. In the Fergal Meagher Cup, St. Patrick’s College Thurles defeated St. Mary’s Belfast by 4-19 to 1-7.

Ken Hogan’s Tipperary Under 21 side will play Richie Mulrooney’s Kilkenny in a Challenge match on Wednesday March 20 in Ballyragget. The throw-in is 7.30pm and the game will be refereed by Eamon Mansfield. Admission on the night is €5 and all proceeds go to the Kilkenny C.B.S Pitch Improvement scheme. The same counties met in a similar match 12 months ago at the same venue and served up a cracking contest with Tipperary prevailing by a point. A large turnout would be greatly appreciated. Among the promoters are Kilkenny CBS teacher, Paul O’Donoghue of Cashel who is one of the leading lights in that great bastion of Tipperary support in Kilkenny, the Sliabh na mBan Association.

Tipperary County GAA Board are targeting 1,000 tables in the local heats of their all county table quiz being held on Friday March 15. On that night Fran Curry will call out the questions live on Tipp Fm to thousands of quiz enthusiasts all over the county who will convene in their local venues. Local winners from the heats will go forward to the Grand County Final being held in The Dome, Semple Stadium on Thurs March 28th where the outright winning table will receive 4 tickets to New York. Clubs must have a minimum of 5 tables to send forward a winning team to the county final with the added incentive if they get over 15 tables they can send forward 2 winners and 3 for over 25.
