Seamus Callanan moves into Second Place

Seamus Callanan is putting the heat on the leader in the hurling top scorer chart. Antrim’s Paul Shiels has 1-64 to his name thanks to a run that has involved seven games but Seamus Callanan has cut his lead to 18-points. That may seem a lot to make up but if Tipperary get to the All-Ireland final and Seamus keep up his average of 12.25 points per game, then everything is up for grabs. Cork’s Pat Horgan is in third place with 2-41 and either he or Seamus Callanan are guaranteed to play two more games in this year’s competition. Wexford’s Conor McDonald (5-10) is the top scorer from play. Seamus Callanan and Conor McDonald are the top goal scorers with five goals. The highest individual scoring feat in the championship so far is Horgan’s 2-11 against Clare and Seamus Callanan’s 3-8 v Galway.

Congratulations to Colin O’Riordan

Congratulations to Colin O’Riordan on being voted GAA.ie Football Player of Week last week. Colin had an outstanding game against Galway scoring 1-2 from play. He gave a dynamic performance, tackling intelligently, fielding brilliantly, winning breaks and displaying an impressive array of ball skills as well. Given Tipperary were beaten by Galway, and the fact that he is still 18 years of age, Colin O’Riordan’s achievement in winning last week’s award is all the more remarkable. He dominated the vote and polled more than twice that of his nearest rival, Cork’s Colm O’Neill.
