TIPP SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWSLETTER 26 APRIL 2012

Dear Tipperary Supporter
ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL
FROM TIPPERARY GAA SCENE BY COUNTY PRO GER RYAN
Hard luck to the Tipperary senior hurlers on their 1-25 to 2-15 defeat to Cork in the Allianz hurling league semi-final at Semple Stadium on Sunday last. It was a disappointing end to the 2012 league campaign but Cork are always formidable opponents and they certainly proved yesterday that they are a resurgent force. This defeat is the latest in a poor league run against our great Leeside rivals. Tipperary have only had 1 win (2009) in their last 9 AHL meetings with Cork with the other 8 being 5 defeats and 3 draws. Tipperary’s next competitive outing will the Munster championship quarter-final against Limerick at Semple Stadium on Sunday, May 27. The winners of that game will play Cork in the Munster semi-final. We extend our best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Cork goalkeeper Donal Óg Cusack, who sustained a serious ankle injury during last Sunday’s game. The Munster senior football quarter-final between Tipperary and Kerry will also be played at Semple S tadium on Sunday, May 27.

MINOR HURLING
Good luck to the Tipperary minor hurlers who will play Kerry in the Munster championship first round at Semple Stadium on Wednesday May 2 at 7pm. Tipperary and Kerry have met 9 times in the Munster minor hurling championship and Tipp have recorded 9 wins, scoring 7 goals in 4 of those games and 10 in 2 of them. Their most recent encounter was in April 2002 when Tipperary won at Austin Stack Park, Tralee by 5-20 to 0-8. They last met in Thurles in April 2001 when Tipperary won by 2-16 to 0-8. Bill Maher from Kilsheelan Kilcash is the team captain. Expectations will clearly be for a Tipp win but as our minor footballers have proven traditions and expectations can be overcome so there will be no over confidence in the well prepared Tipperary camp.
GAA MATCH TICKETS
The GAA has partnered with Tickets.ie and the Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland to create Ireland’s largest secure ticket sales network. Over 130 SuperValu and Centra stores will sell tickets for GAA fixtures throughout the remainder of the year. The new sales network significantly increases the availability of tickets to all those wishing to watch top-class hurling and football. No ticket fees will apply for any tickets purchased via the new network or online via Tickets.ie or www.gaa.ie. GAA supporters can now purchase tickets in advance of fixtures via a variety of channels:
1) Online via www.gaa.ie or tickets.ie; 2) Via over 150 SuperValu & Centra stores and Tickets.ie outlets; 3) Via 32 County Board offices; 4) Via 4 Provincial Council offices and the GAA Ticket Office; 5) Via any one of our 2,800+ GAA Clubs. That gives a total of over 180 locations where tickets can be purchased over-the-counter in advance of fixtures where no additional ticket fees apply. The new sales arrangements enhance the GAA’s existing Championship sponsorship agreements with SuperValu and Centra. All stores involved will sell tickets for any GAA fixture where tickets are available. Tickets.ie is the GAA’s official ticketing partner. Tickets.ie serves as primary sales agent for the GAA, both online and retail. As with online sales via Tickets.ie no service charges will apply for customers purchasing via the new outlets.
The new network was piloted in 2011 and has already proved successful in 2012 with SuperValu and Centra stores selling tickets for fixtures in the Allianz Leagues, Cadbury’s U21 Football Championships & AIB Club Championships. The full network of outlets will be open by end April, before the commencement of the GAA Championships.
TIPPERARY SUPPORTERS CLUB GOLF CLASSIC
The Tipperary Supporters Club 27th annual golf classic will take place on Thursday and Friday May 10 and 11 at the County Tipperary Golf Club at Dundrum House Hotel. The team entry fee this year is being maintained at €600 for a team of 4 for golf and 4 course meal to acknowledge our appreciation of the great support we have had from so many people over the years and given that the economic environment is still extremely difficult. Tee sponsorship is also available at €200 per tee. The Tipperary Hurlers have given us tremendous entertainment over the last three years reaching three successive All-Ireland Finals. This has necessitated increased assistance from the Supporters Club. Sponsorship or a team or tee for the golf classic will help give our management and team every opportunity to regain the All-Ireland title this year. To enter a team or sponsor a tee, please contact John Tierney, Supporters Club Chairman on 01 6217880, 087 6821398 or jpt@eircom.net. Further de tails on www.tippsupportersclub.com .

TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW
The 2012- 2013 Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw is being promoted in divisions and clubs at present and it is great to report a widespread positive response to the new draw, which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year. The draw is an essential source of funds for clubs and the county board and without it much of the games and other development work that goes on in the county would not be possible. We ask all our loyal supporters to remain in the draw if possible and would encourage new members to join. Prizes include cars, holidays and several cash prizes every month – all for €100 per year or €10 per month. For further details contact your local club co-ordinator or Ger Bradley at the Tipp GAA Office on 0504 22702.
TOMMY BARRETT TO PRESENT BOOK PROCEEDS
County Board President and former long-serving County Board Secretary, Tommy Barrett will present the proceeds from his recent book to the Hospice Movement at a function to be held in the Sarsfields Social Centre on Friday night next, April 27. Tommy’s book, The Runai, which was written in conjunction with Susan Max is a very interesting account of Tommy’s long and distinguished service to the GAA and Tommy deserves great credit for his thoughtful and generous gesture in donating the proceeds to a very worthy cause.
