Dear Tipperary Supporter

Tipperary will play Kerry in the Munster senior football championship quarter-final at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Sunday next, May 26 at 2pm. The game will be shown live on RTE 2. Tickets are available onwww.tickets.ie – Adult Stand €20 – Students and OAP’s buy their full price ticket and receive €5 back at the stile; Adult terrace €15 – Students and OAP’s buy their full price ticket and receive €5 back at the stile; U16’s are free on to the Terrace ONLY so there are no Juvenile Group offers available. A limited number of family tickets in the stand are also available.

The game will be refereed by Conor Lane of Cork. We wish the players and management the very best of luck for the game. The winners will play Waterford in the Munster semi-final on Saturday June 1 at 7pm. This will be the fourth year in a row that Tipperary and Kerry have met in the quarter-final. In last year’s encounter at Semple Stadium, Tipperary were defeated by 0-16 to 0-10. Tipperary will be looking to break a long losing streak in the Munster championship – they have lost their first game in each of the last 9 seasons. Their last win was in 2003, when helped by 11 points from Declan Browne, they defeated Waterford at Walsh Park by 0-18 to 1-12.

Good luck to the Tipperary junior football team and management for their Munster championship quarter-final against Kerry on Sunday next May 26 at 12 noon in Fitzgerald Stadium. Good luck also to David Grogan of Aherlow who will referee the other junior championship quarter-final between Limerick and Cork at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Saturday evening next, May 25 at 5pm. This game is curtain raiser to the senior quarter-final between the same counties at 7pm.

Tipperary will attempt to win their first ever 3 in a row of Munster minor football titles when they play Kerry on Sunday July 7. It will be the county’s fourth time in 5 years in the final which is a great achievement. They secured their final place with a 0-11 to 0-8 victory over a hotly fancied Cork team at Semple Stadium last Wednesday night. Well done to the players and to Charlie McKeever and his management team on their successes so far. It’s a measure of progress that qualifying for a Munster final is no longer seen as an end in itself – the ambition of the players, management and the county is to achieve victory. While it won’t be easy to win against Kerry, this is a good, confident and well prepared Tipperary team that won’t be easily defeated.

Tipperary County Board is running a fund raiser for the Tipperary county teams at Powerstown Park Racecourse Clonmel during the evening meeting on Friday June 14. There are multiple options to support this event: A race can be sponsored at €2,000; tables of 10 in the club lounge including a meal can be purchased for €500 or individual seats for €50; standard entrance costs €10 or there is advertising in the racecard at various prices depending on the ad size. All support is welcome and a good evening’s entertainment is assured.

Tipperary will play Galway in a senior hurling challenge game at MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan on Sunday next, May 26at 12 noon. Admission will be €5 and all proceeds will go to the recently opened recently opened Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre. This will be Tipperary’s last game before they play Limerick in the Munster senior hurling championship on June 9 so it’s a last opportunity for people to see how preparations are going.

Saturday June 1 will be an important day in the history of Carrick-on-Suir as a statue of Maurice Davin will be unveiled that afternoon at Davin Park by Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Liam Ó Néill. Maurice Davin was a founder and the first President of the GAA and a noted athlete in his own right. The unveiling ceremony will commence at 2.30pm. More details of the weekend’s events will be available in next week’s GAA Scene but there will be something to entertain all ages and interests over the course of the June Bank Holiday in Carrick.

There is a new format Poc Fada competition being run this year. A valuable prize is now available for the winner of the Senior Provincial competition. A county final medal will be presented to the U16 and Senior County Final winner. The Galtee Mountains are the proposed site for the County Finals of the U16 and Senior competition in Tipperary. This venue will also be the site for the Provincial Finals. The date for the County Finals is Saturday June 8. Three entrants are permitted from each division in both the U16 and Senior competition.
