Any hurlers from Tipperary living in New York or planning to travel to New York are very welcome to join the Tipperary hurling club there which has long provided great welcome and support to exiles from the Premier county as well as being a great standard bearer for hurling in the Big Apple. There will be a Memorial Mass for the late Donal O’Brien of Knockavilla Kickhams, Tipperary and New York and his brother, Jimmy, both of whom died in April, at Knockavilla Church on Saturday June 30 at 7.30pm. Donal won All Ireland senior hurling medals as a goalkeeper with Tipperary in 1961 and 62. He was on the All Ireland winning minor hurling panel of 1957 and also played minor in 1958. He died suddenly on a visit to London to see his brother Jimmy who passed away within a couple of weeks of Donal’s death. Jimmy was interred in London and Donal in New York. We were all very saddened to hear of the untimely death of Ger Heenan, Shannon Rovers Club Secretary last week. Ger had represented the club as a player, was Chairman of the Club in 1996 and 1997 and Club Secretary for the past 10 years. He was their representative to North Board meetings since 1995 and one of the most popular officials in the county. He always represented his club with great effect while maintaining his affable and friendly demeanour. His son Paddy continues the involvement of the Heenan family with the Rovers and is their current goalkeeper. To his wife Breda, daughter Sarah and Paddy we offer our deepest sympathy. Seven Tyrone Gaels are taking part in a Charity Event from July 24 to July 28, in which they will travel around Ireland taking a penalty at one GAA pitch in all of the 32 Counties. They are asking every GAA Club to donate €32 to the Simon Communities of Ireland, a charity that deals with the homeless in Ireland. On their travels, they will sleep on the streets as a mere gesture and nothing compared to the relentless efforts by the homeless to survive on the streets all year round. They will arrive in Newport GAA pitch for 12 noon on Tuesday July 24th having travelled from Clare and on their way to Limerick. Details of this novel charity event can be found on their website, www.32-32-32.com or by emailing info@32-32-32.com. Why not come along and support them in Newport or elsewhere on their charity journey for the homeless.
A large attendance of club representatives from all four divisions descended on the John Doyle GAA Centre in Holycross on Monday June 11th. The event kicked off with a tour of the new club facilities by members of the Holycross-Ballycahill GAA Club. The formal proceedings commenced with a presentation by Denis Floyd on the importance of compiling a Club Plan. There were short presentations from Upperchurch-Drombane (Mary Ryan) and Nenagh Eire Óg (Jim Nagle) about the club plans both clubs have recently completed. County Chairman Sean Nugent then updated the clubs present on the exciting development plans for Dr. Morris Park in the coming years. The main topic of discussion for the evening was the Munster GAA Club Grant Scheme for 2012. Munster GAA Chairman Sean Walsh informed those present that the Munster Council has distributed €6.7 million in grants based on €39 million spent by clubs in the province over the last 4 years, including over €1 million in grants to T ipperary clubs. Details of the various development grant categories were explained in detail by Sean Walsh including Field Purchase, Dressing room construction, Schools Grounds Purchase & Development, Handball Court Development, Sanding Grant Scheme and Other Club Development Projects. Following a useful Question and Answers session, County Development Officer Jimmy Minogue wrapped up the proceedings with a reminder that while the closing date for 2012 grant applications is Friday September 28th, it is important that clubs have their applications in order in advance of that date to avoid any last minute problems. To view more details and download application forms, visit the Munster GAA web site at http://munster.gaa.ie/clubs/gaa-development-grants Our thanks are due to all the speakers for their excellent and informative contributions.

We are contacting you today because at some point in the past, you MAY have used the facilities and services of the Tipperary Excel Heritage Centre and might like to know about the launch of our new €2 lotto draw on 20th July 2012.
The Tipperary Excel is a registered charity organisation CHY 11372 that provides services to patrons at home and abroad in the area of family research, heritage and cultural facilities, an arts program that is both entertaining and educational, dance, literary and art workshops for children and adults throughout the year. As you can imagine, the facility is a vital artery in the lives of everyone that live and work or visits to the region.
We have provided all these services for 11 years now and we would very much like to continue to do that. Given the more difficult economic times we live in, in Ireland, it is more important than ever that we continue to fundraise in order to sustain the facility, carry out repairs and meet all our commitments in the course of providing these services to our community at home and to the wider Tipperary community abroad who visit the region or who come to us to find their family roots. The €2 lotto draw provides our community and the wider diaspora with an easy way of supporting a little bit of their ancestral home so that when you come and visit us, there are facilities here that can make your stay a more enjoyable experience, a centre that is fit for purpose and provides an appropriate backdrop to our beautiful countryside.
We hope you will help us to continue to realise the dream that begun more than 15 years ago – to provide a state of the art facility for our beautiful county.
