Tipperary commence their 2013 Allianz Hurling League campaign on Saturday night next, February 23 against Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn at 7pm. We wish the management and players well for the game and league campaign. Tipperary won the last of their 19 Allianz hurling league titles in 2008. Tipperary and Cork have met on 56 occasions in the National Hurling League. Cork lead the way with 28 wins to Tipperary’s 23, while there have been 5 draws, the last of which occurred in last year’s game in Thurles on April 1st. Their last league meeting was in last year’s semi-final at Semple Stadium which Cork won by 1-25 to 2-15. Tipperary have played Cork 3 times in Pairc Ui Rinn: 26/2/1995  Cork 1-12 Tipp 1-7; 18/2/1996 Tipp 1-15 Cork 1-8 and 12/4/1998 Cork 2-11 Tipp 2-10.

Congratulations to Shane McGrath (Ballinahinch) and Brendan Maher (Borris-Ileigh) who have been named as captain and vice-captain respectively of the Tipperary senior hurling team for 2013. Congratulations also to Seamus Kennedy (Clonmel Commercials) and Donagh Leahy (Arravale Rovers) who have been named as captain and vice-captain respectively of the Tipperary under 21 football team for 2013. We wish all 4 players well in their new leadership roles.

Good luck to Our Lady’s Templemore in the Dr. Harty Cup Munster Colleges A Hurling final against Dungarvan Colleges at Sean Treacy Park Tipperary Town on Sunday next, February 24 at 2.30.p.m. Well done to Our Lady’s on their Munster Colleges B football final victory over Abbey CBS Tipperary by 2-16 to 1-9 at Leahy Park Cashel last Saturday.




The first round of the county senior hurling challenge cups (replacement for county senior hurling league) will take place on Sunday March 3 at 2.30pm unless otherwise agreed between clubs and notified to the CCC secretary. First teams listed in the draw have home venue. Regulations will be sent to all clubs by the weekend. We extend best wishes for a speedy recovery to former Tipperary All Ireland winning player and selector, Theo English, who is recovering from a recent illness at University Hospital Cork.




Tipperary Supporters Club would like to extend our sympathy to the family of the late Mrs Julia Shanahan of Roscrea.  Julia’s son Jackie is a well-known figure in Roscrea and a very committed Tpperary supporter and seller of Tipperary Supporters Club memberships in the Roscrea area. Tipperary County Board would like to extend its sympathy to the families and relatives of the late Tom Slattery and Johnny Murphy. Tom Slattery from the Shannon Rovers club was a former Chairman of the North Tipperary GAA Board and a noted follower of Gaelic games the length and breadth of Tipperary and the country. Johnny Murphy was a native of Cashel but a long-time resident of Dungarvan. He served as Chairman of Waterford County Board in the 80s and was also a noted journalist with The Examiner, The Evening Echo and The Waterford News and Star. Chairpersons, Secretaries, Treasurers and PRO’s of Club senior and juvenile clubs are invited to a club officer’s information night on Wednesday March 6 in the Dome at 7.30pm. This Information Night will be hosted by Croke Park and Munster Council personnel with special guest speakers in attendance. It’s an important event for all club officers to attend.



Congratulations to Fethard native, John Keane who recently received the Tullamore GAA Club Person of the Year Award 2012. John played a pivotal role with both winning Minor and Junior B football teams last year. John has an impressive record throughout his years as a coach in the club. John was involved in the two Féile winning teams in 1999 and 2000 and has won championships with every underage age group. John was captain of the Tipperary senior football team in 1979 and represented the county at all levels in football and at minor and under 21 in hurling.




The Tipperary Association Dublin invites nominations for its Annual Awards for 2012, which acknowledge the special contribution made by and the achievements of Tipperary people. Nominations are invited in two categories: Tipperary Person of the Year and Hall of Fame. The Awards will be presented a special function in Dublin later in the year. Over the last thirty years the Tipperary Person of the Year Award has acknowledged the achievements, at local and national level, of Sportsmen and Sportswomen, Academics, Community Activists and prominent Business people from Tipperary. The Tipperary Person of the Year Award will be presented to an individual who made a special contribution to Tipperary in 2012. The Hall of Fame honours and acknowledges the achievements and contributions at a national level in the sporting, cultural and community life of the county and the country.
