MUNSTER SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the Tipperary senior hurlers and team management on winning the county’s 40th Munster senior hurling championship at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday last by defeating Waterford by 2-17 to 0-16. Tipperary will play Kilkenny or Limerick in the All-Ireland semi-final on August 19 at Croke Park. Tipperary have played Kilkenny 5 times in semi-finals, winning 3 (1887, 1900 and 1958) and losing 2 (2002 and 2003). Tipperary defeated Limerick in their only semi-final encounter in 2009. MUNSTER UNDER 21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
We extend best wishes to the Tipperary under 21 hurlers and management for their Munster semi-final clash with Limerick at Pairc na nGael on Wednesday evening, July 18 at 7.30pm. The game will be refereed by Michael Wadding of Waterford. This will be the first meeting since 2008 between the two counties at under 21 level when Tipperary won by 1-13 to 0-15 at Semple Stadium. The other semi-final will be played at Cusack Park Ennis between Clare and Waterford on Thursday July 19 with Johnny Ryan of Boherlahan Dualla as referee. MUNSTER INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
We extend best wishes to the Tipperary Intermediate hurlers for their Munster final clash with defending champions Clare at MacDonagh Park Nenagh on Wednesday July 25 at 7.30pm. Tipperary will be seeking their eight title and Clare their second. Tipperary last won the title in 2006 when they defeated Cork in the final. ELECTRIC IRELAND MUNSTER MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONS
Tipperary won their 37th Munster minor title on Sunday last when they defeated Clare by 1-16 to 1-12 at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It was the county’s first minor hurling and football Munster championship double since 1955 and their first senior and minor hurling double since 2001. Tipperary have qualified for the semi-final where they will meet the winners of the quarter-final between Galway and Wexford which will be played at O’Connor Park, Tullamore on Saturday, July 28 at 4pm. It will be preceded by the other quarter-final between Clare and Down. The semi-final fixture will be confirmed after the quarter-finals but it is most likely to be on August 19. ALL IRELAND SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Tipperary’s good run in the All-Ireland senior football championship continued on Saturday last when they defeated a fancied Wexford side by 1-13 to 0-15 at Semple Stadium. Well done to all the players and management on a fine performance. We wish them luck for the next round against Antrim at Semple Stadium on Saturday next, July 21 at 3pm. The winners will play the losers of the Ulster final between Donegal and Down.
ALL IRELAND MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Tipperary will play Mayo in the All-Ireland minor football championship on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Further details will be available next week.
ALL IRELAND SENIOR HURLING QUARTER FINALS
The All-Ireland senior hurling quarter-finals will be played at Semple Stadium on Sunday July 29. Cork will play Waterford at 2pm and Kilkenny will play Limerick at 4pm. Well done to the Semple Stadium Management Committee, Munster Council and all the stewards on duty at Saturday’s triple header at the Stadium – a long day’s work was carried out very smoothly and efficiently.
COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
There are 4 games in the county senior hurling championship to be played this weekend. The round 1 game between Kilruane MacDonaghs and Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams will be played at Templetuohy on Sunday July 22 at 7pm. There are 3 round 2 games down for decision – Ballingarry v Lorrha and Dorrha at the Ragg on Saturday July 21 at 7pm; Nenagh Eire Og v Burgess at Dolla also on Saturday at 7pm and JK Brackens v Templederry Kenyons at Borrisoleigh on Sunday July 22 at 7pm. Extra time will be played if necessary in all games.
SEAMUS O RIAIN CUP
There will be 2 games in the Seamus O Riain Cup senior hurling competition this weekend. Upperchurch-Drombane will play Moycarkey-Borris at The Ragg at 5pm on Saturday evening July 21 and Aherlow will play Golden-Kilfeacle at Bansha on Sunday July 22 at 6.30pm. Extra time will be played if necessary in both games. The losers of these games will go into the senior hurling relegation competition. The other Seamus O Riain Cup round 1 games will be played on weekend of July 28/29.
COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
There are 2 county senior football championship round 1 games scheduled for Sunday July 22 at Clonmel Sportsfield. Fethard will play Ardfinnan at 5.30pm and Clonmel Og will play Moyle Rovers at 7pm. Extra time will be played in both games if necessary.
TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW
The Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw will be hosted by the Rosegreen Club this Friday night July 20 in the Community Hall Rosegreen at 10pm. On the night Mary Shelley (Fethard) will be presented with her winning cheque of €10,000 along with €400 to Seamus Hackett the promoter of the winning ticket. €500 cheques will also be presented to both Bridget Costello and Michael Dowling from Rosegreen who were both winners in the June Draw. On the night the July Draw will see two lucky people win 2 Skoda Cars and there will also be 25 cash prizes of €500 each. Please come along and celebrate with Rosegreen GAA Club on the night. Remember if you cannot be there on the night then please tune in to Tipp FM at 10.30 approx Friday night for a live update on the draw, you can also get updates on Tipp Mid West on Saturday morning at 10.45am along with a further update with Paddy Finucane on Tipp FM at 5pm on Saturday evening. Results with also be sent out via text to all promoters and co -ordinators on the night.
GAA / GPA PLAYER OF MONTH
Congratulations to Patrick “Bonner” Maher of Lorrha and Dorrha who received the GAA / GPA hurler of the month award for May on foot of his key role in Tipperary’s victory over Cork in the Munster SHC semi-final. His powerful running and probing of the Cork defence proved critical to Tipp’s success and his performance has earned him the approval of his peers.
CUL CAMPS
There are 10 Kelloggs GAA Cul Camps on in Tipperary clubs this week – Ballina, Borrisokane, Carrick Davins, Emly, Cappawhite, Fr. Sheehys, Lorrha and Dorrha, Roscrea, Shannon Rovers and Solohead, There will be 8 camps next week in Ardfinnan, Clerihan, Galtee Rovers, Golden Kilfeacle, Killenaule, Kilsheelan Kilcash, Knockshegowna and Thurles Gaels. THE GATHERING
A public meeting organised by North Tipperary County Council will be held about The Gathering on Thursday July 26 in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh. The GAA has been asked to strongly support ‘The Gathering’ in 2013, a Government initiative to attract people to Ireland in 2013 in order to boost the economy and create jobs and Tipperary County Board would ask all clubs in the North Tipperary County Council Area to send representation to the meeting. All members of the public who are interested are welcome to attend. The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a people’s project. It’s about you, your family, your neighbours, your community, your sports club, your town and county. This is your chance to showcase the very best of North Tipperary by organising gatherings and inviting family, friends and people with Irish connections from all over the world to be part of it.
