The Tipperary Supporters Club 27th annual golf classic will take place on Thursday and Friday May 10 and 11 at the County Tipperary Golf Club at Dundrum House Hotel. The team entry fee this year is being maintained at €600 for a team of 4 for golf and 4 course meal to acknowledge our appreciation of the great support we have had from so many people over the years and given that the economic environment is still extremely difficult. Tee sponsorship is also available at €200 per tee. The Tipperary Hurlers have given us tremendous entertainment over the last three years reaching three successive All-Ireland Finals. This has necessitated increased assistance from the Supporters Club. Sponsorship or a team or tee for the golf classic will help give our management and team every opportunity to regain the All-Ireland title this year. To enter a team or sponsor a tee, please contact John Tierney, Supporters Club Chairman on 01 6217880, 087 6821398 or jpt@eircom.net. Further de tails on www.tippsupportersclub.com .

Liam O’Neill from the Trumaire club in Laois was inaugurated at Uachtaran Cumann Luthchleas Gael at the GAA’s Annual Congress in Killenard, Co. Laois on Saturday last. We congratulate, Liam, his wife Aine, his family, club and county on achieving this great and well deserved honour. Liam is a vastly experienced administrator and a forward thinking man with an ability to both devise and implement worthwhile ideas. His leadership will no doubt be very positive for the GAA and Tipperary County Board looks forward to working with him during his Presidency. Tipperary County Board would also like to extend its thanks and good wishes to outgoing Uachtaran, Christy Cooney of Cork, who lead the Association very successfully for the last 3 years. He made several visits to Tipperary during his term including attendance at Tipperary Supporters Club events, was generous with his time and always emphasised the importance of the club as the core unit of the GAA. He will be also remem bered for representing the GAA so positively during the visits to Croke Park of Queen Elizabeth II and Chinese Vice President Xi Jingping.
Con Hogan of Marlfield completed his 3 year term as Trustee of the GAA at the Annual Congress last weekend. A former Chairman of Tipperary County Board and current Chairman of the Semple Stadium Management Committee, Con has carried out many important roles for the GAA at national level culminating is his election as Trustee 3 years ago. He served on the Management and Finance Committees of the GAA during his term and carried out these and other responsibilities with his usual high level of capability and efficiency. We congratulate Con on his great work and thank him for representing the county so well. We wish new trustees, Jimmy O’Gorman of Waterford and Seamus Howlin of Wexford well for their terms.
The 2012- 2013 Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw was officially opened live on Tipp FM by our County Board Chairman, Sean Nugent on Saturday April 7. As people may have heard we are celebrating our 25th anniversary of the draw and our prize fund this year has this thread running through it. At this stage all our current members should have received their receipts for the 2011-2012 draw in the post. Members who did not receive one should contact the GAA Office at Lar na Pairce on 0504 22702. Members of the Draw Committee, chaired by Peter Byrne, will be visiting each division in the coming week to promote the draw to the clubs. The draw is an essential source of funds for clubs and the county board and without it much of the games and other development work that goes on in the county would not be possible. We ask all our loyal supporters to remain in the draw if possible and would encourage new members to join. Prizes include cars, holidays and several cash prizes every month – a ll for €100 per year or €10 per month. For further details contact your local club co-ordinator or Ger Bradley at the Tipp GAA Office on 0504 22702.
Tipperary County Board would like to extend its sympathy to the families of Donal O’Brien, John Joe McCormack and Chris Lacey all of whom passed away recently. Donal O’Brien won All Ireland senior hurling medals as a goalkeeper with Tipperary in 1961 and 62. He was on the All Ireland winning minor hurling panel of 1957 and also played minor in 1958. From the Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams club, Donal resided in the United States for many years but died suddenly on a visit to London. No funeral arrangements were available at time of going to press. John Joe McCormack was also from the Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams club although he resided for many years in Tipperary Town. John Joe won an All Ireland minor hurling medal with Tipperary in 1947. A keen golfer, he was for many years responsible for taking team entries at the Tipperary Supporters Club Golf Classic in Dundrum. Chris Lacey lived in Carlow but was a native of Cappawhite. Chris was a stalwart member of the T ipperary Supporters Club and provided generous sponsorship and support to the activities of the Club and will be especially remembered for his active participation in the annual golf classics over many years where he never failed to enter a strong and competitive team. Ar dheis De go raibh a anamacha.
Tipperary’s minor footballers made the daunting trip to Tralee to take on Kerry in the first round of the Munster minor football championship on Saturday night last and emerged with an impressive and well deserved victory by 2-9 to 0-8 with both goals coming from last year’s All Ireland goal scoring hero, Colman Kennedy of Clonmel Commercials. Tipperary have now won 7 minor football championship games in a row since the start of their 2011 campaign which is a great achievement. Their win presents them with a tough semi-final challenge against Cork at a Cork venue on Wednesday May 16.
