Dear Tipperary Supporter

Well done to the Tipperary Senior hurlers on their 2-17 to 1-19 win over Kilkenny at Semple Stadium on Sunday last in the Allianz Hurling League. The victory reignites Tipperary’s league campaign and with both teams on 2 points their journey to Pearse Stadium to play Galway on Monday next, March 18 will be of immense significance to the league prospects of both counties. Galway are Tipperary’s most frequent league opponents with the counties having met on 67 occasions. Tipperary lead the way with 44 victories to 18 for Galway and 5 draws but historic results will be no guide to Sunday’s game. Tipperary have won on their last 2 visits to Pearse Stadium in 2011 and 2009 and drew in 2008. Galway’s last victory at home over Tipperary was in 2007 so they will certainly want to reverse recent trends on Monday.

Ken Hogan’s Tipperary Under 21 side will play Richie Mulrooney’s Kilkenny in a Challenge match on Wednesday March 20 in Ballyragget. The throw-in is 7.30pm and the game will be refereed by Eamon Mansfield. Admission on the night is €5 and all proceeds go to the Kilkenny C.B.S Pitch Improvement scheme. The same counties met in a similar match 12 months ago at the same venue and served up a cracking contest with Tipperary prevailing by a point. A large turnout would be greatly appreciated. Among the promoters are Kilkenny CBS teacher, Paul O’Donoghue of Cashel who is one of the leading lights in that great bastion of Tipperary support in Kilkenny, the Sliabh na mBan Association.

Congratulations to Niall O’Meara of Kilruane MacDonaghs who has been appointed captain of the Tipperary under 21 hurling team for 2013 and to Brian Stapleton of Templederry Kenyons who is vice-captain. Well done also to Tom Fox of Eire Og Annacarty Donohill on his appointment as minor hurling captain for 2013. Niall O’Meara is brother of senior hurling panellist Brian and Brian Stapleton is brother of senior hurling panellist Thomas. Tom Fox is from the well-known Fox clan of Eire Og many of whom have represented Tipperary at all levels of hurling and football with his uncle Pat most notable among them as an All-Ireland medallist, All Star and hurler of the year.

My name is Eoin Kelly from Tipperary Town. I am 10 years old & my club is Arravale Rovers. I won the Tipperary Supporters Competition to be the Tipperary Team Mascot for the Tipperary/Kilkenny match on Sunday 10th March. I had a great day because I got to meet Brendan Maher and Shane McGrath. I got my photograph taken with the Tipperary Team with me sitting in the middle of them. My Dad, brother & me got to watch the first half of the match from the commentary box so we had a great view and at half time I was interviewed for Tipp FM Radio. I also met Marty Morrissey & got my photo taken with him too. I suppose another great thing on the day is that Tipperary won the match which I was delighted about & every one was telling me that I brought the “luck of the green” to the Tipp team – maybe I did. I really enjoyed my day & thank you to the Tipperary Supporters Club.

If you would like to enter Match Mascot draws for future games just join up for free as a Junior Member on www.tippsupportersclub.com.   Adult membership is also available there for €30, see below.
