Dear Tipperary Supporter
SH Waterford Crystal
From Tipperary GAA Scene by County Board Secretary Tim Floyd
Congrats to the Tipp Senior Hurlers on beating All Ireland champions Clare in the Waterford Crystal final last Friday night under lights in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick. Tipp opened impressively and were seven points in front coming up to half time but a scoring burst by the Banner boys yielded 3-1 in five minutes and suddenly Tipp trailed by one point at the break. But in the second half Tipp went into cruise control and ran up a 14 point lead to win by 4-22 to 3-11. James Woodlock was captain for the night and received the Waterford Crystal Trophy from Munster Council Chairman, Robert Frost.
Allianz Hurling League 1st Round
Focus is now on the AHL as Tipperary face Waterford this Saturday night under the lights of Semple Stadium starting 7pm. Only the New Stand will be open and admission on the night is €15 but tickets can be purchased in advance for €10 at any of the usual Supervalue or Centra retail outlets around the county (No concession on these). Tipperary supporters have purchased 1200 GAA Season tickets to date so a crowd of up to 4000 is expected on Sat night. With no curtain raiser the message for non ticket holders is to come early and avoid the queues as tickets must be purchased at the ticket booths before going to the stiles. Patrons should note the following stile allocations; Season tickets at stiles 48 to 51, Player passes at stile 41, Juveniles including Groups at stile 45, Concession refunds at stile 52/53. Allianz Football League
Following their impressive opening game away to Carlow, Tipperary were brought down to earth in the second round against Waterford in the Clonmel Sportsfield last Sunday and were looking to come away with a share of the points. In the first half the Decies boys never allowed us to play with any fluency but when we went three points up ten minutes into the second half and the breeze at our backs it looked like we would kick on. But it was Waterford who turned the screw and had the opportunity to score the winning point in stoppage time but their top scorer Paul Whyte put it just wide of the post and Tipp’s blushes were saved. A crowd of 490 spectators watched this game which was disappointing in a venue famed for its football hinterland. Tipp have a break for three weeks now before we head across the water to play London on Sun March 2nd. (Match report elsewhere)
Our MF team had their first outing in the Leinster League last Sunday and suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Longford in Pearse Park. Final score Longford 2-12, Tipperary 0-6. Their remaining two games go ahead during the mid-term break with Wicklow on Mon 17th in Carlow and Louth on Wed 19th at venue tbc.
