ETIHAD SKYLINE AT CROKE PARK

Croke Park Stadium has announced that the much anticipated Etihad Skyline tour on the roof of the historic ground will open to the public on Friday June 1. Sponsored by Etihad Airways, the roof top tour of Croke Park boasts the most spectacular panoramic views of Dublin city and its surroundings from 44 meters or 17 storeys above the ground. With an investment of over €1million and the creation of 10 jobs, the opening of the Etihad Skyline at Croke Park is expected to bring even more visitors to what is already Dublin’s most visited attraction. Some 100 tonnes of painted galvanised steel have gone into creating a unique 0.6 kilometre walkway which was fabricated in Portlaoise and has been installed within the existing steel roof support structure at Croke Park. Five viewing platforms have been created along the walkway which offers a unique perspective of Dublin’s most popular and celebrated landmarks. Among the more notable landmarks which can be viewed from the Etihad Skyline are Glasnevin Cemetery, Guinness Brewery, the Dublin Mountains, Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Poolbeg Lighthouse, Trinity College, The Spire, St. Patrick’s and Christchurch Cathedrals, the Phoenix Park and Docklands buildings. The two hour tour with an experienced tour guide will see groups of up to 30 people ascend to the Etihad Skyline walkway following a full briefing in a stadium dressing room. Each of the five viewing platforms features interpretative panels which highlight the famous landmarks in the line of vision. Visitors will also be able to learn more about these sites through multi-lingual audio guides which are available in six languages and include historical information, quirky anecdotes and interviews with key figures working at some of Dublin’s most famous locations visible from the Etihad Skyline.. The more adventurous visitors will have the chance to make their Etihad Skyline experience even more memorable by walking out from the stadium roof onto a specially designed walkway which is suspended above the Croke Park pitch. Not for the faint hearted, this view of Croke Park shows Ireland’s most famous arena from a completely different and breath-taking perspective. Advance online bookings are advised, particularly during busy periods such as during the summer months. The tour leaves from the GAA Museum located under the Cusack Stand in Croke Park. For more information and for bookings visit www.skylinecrokepark.ie or contact Etihad Skyline Tour enquiries at 01 819 2323 or skyline@crokepark.ie.

TIPPERARY RELAY FOR LIFE

The Tipperary Relay for Life event will take place at Toomevara GAA Club on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August 2012. At Relay For Life hundreds of people gather to embark on a very special 24-hour journey. Relay for Life is an overnight, community celebration and a unique, empowering and fun event. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors and to remember those who have left us. Teams of people will take turns walking around a track. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the 24-hour event. Otherwise team members are free to socialise, picnic, play games, dance and participate in lots of fun activities! However everybody in the community is invited to come along and experience this inspiring event of celebration and commemoration. Two of the highlights during the Relay event are the Survivors’ Lap and the Candle of Hope Ceremony. The Survivors’ Lap is an inspirational start to the event where cancer survivors of all ages are invited to begin the Relay by walking the first lap of the course, cheered on by family, friends and teams from the community. The Candle of Hope Ceremony takes place later in the evening when darkness begins to fall. Before the event everyone in the community is invited to dedicate a Candle of Hope to someone they know who has been touched by cancer. As the evening approaches, the candles are set around the track and lit by participants. It is during this time that the true meaning of Relay really hits home. Cancer will affect one in three people in Ireland during their lifetime. All funds raised through sponsorship and fundraising will go to support the Irish Cancer society’s national services and mission to achieve world-class cancer services, ensuring fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. If you would like to be part of this wonderful event, please email tipprelayteam@live.com or contact: 086-8224140.
