Tipperary’s first competitive outing under the new management team had a successful outcome at MacDonagh Park Nenagh last Sunday in the Waterford Crystal Cup quarter-final with a 0-22 to 1-9 victory over Limerick.  To read a report on the match go to www.tippsupportersclub.com .  The semi-final will be in Dolla next Sunday February 3 at 12 noon against Limerick IT. Admission is €10 for adults, €5 for OAPs / students with id and under 16s are free. Pat Casey of Waterford is the referee. These teams met in the preliminary round last year with Tipperary winning by 2-24 to 1-16. The LIT panel includes John O’Keeffe and Seamus Callanan from the Tipp senior hurling panel although it is unlikely that Seamus Callanan will be available to play due to injury.  To read more detail on the match go to www.tipperary.gaa.ie .  The winners will play the winners of Friday night semi-final between Cork and Clare which takes place at Sixmilebridge at 7.45pm. It will be refereed by Johnny Ryan of Boherlahan Dualla. Interestingly, if both Clare and LIT win their semi-finals, Davy Fitzgerald will be manager of both finalists. We wish Tipperary all the best in their efforts to continue the defence of their title.

Commiserations to the Tipperary senior footballers on their defeat by Kerry in the McGrath Cup final at Sean Treacy Park Tipperary Town on Saturday last. They are back in action next weekend in the first round of the Allianz Football League Division 4 against Carlow at Semple Stadium at 2pm on Sunday. Only the Old Stand (Ardan Ui Choinneáin) will be open. The game will be refereed by Pat Fox of Westmeath. We wish the footballers and the management team well for this game and the league campaign. Having been relegated last year, they will be hoping to have a short stay in Division 4.

Hard luck to Silvermines on their narrow defeat after extra time to Clara of Kilkenny in last Sunday’s AIB All Ireland Intermediate club hurling semi-final. The final score after extra time was Clara 0-19 Silvermines 1-14. Well done to the players, management and club officials on such a fine run in the championship and for the manner in which they represented their club and county in Munster and nationally. Well done also to their faithful supporters who travelled in large numbers to support them in all their games and who also had plenty of colour and signage around the parish.Tipperary sporting legend
