TWO-TIME ALL-Ireland winner Pádraic Maher will retain his captaincy of the Tipperary hurlers in 2018.

The Thurles Sarsfields player was first appointed to the role last November to succeed Borris-Ileigh’s Brendan, having previously been the team’s vice-captain when Tipperary were crowned Munsterand All-Ireland champions in 2016.

His debut year as captain failed to produce the same victorious climax, as Tipperary lost both of their titles. They were defeated by Cork in the provincial championship, before bowing out at the All-Ireland semi-final stage against eventual champions Galway.

Maher made his senior debut in 2009 and has been involved in senior All-Ireland winning Tipperary teams in 2010 and 2016.  He also captained his county to an All-Ireland U21 title in 2010.

He earned his fifth All-Star this year having previously earned the award in in 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2016.
