Allianz Hurling League Division IA: Kilkenny 5-20 Tipperary 5-14
Kilkenny overturned a 10-point first half deficit to beat their great rivals Tipperary in an incredible game at Nowlan park on Sunday afternoon.
Colin Fennelly was the Cats’ hero, scoring 3-5 from play, as Brian Cody’s side recovered from last week’s defeat to Clare and the concession of four first half goals to open their account in the 2014 Allianz Hurling League.
In keeping with recent encounters between the sides, this was a classic. Tipperary led by 4-9 to 2-9 at the break and there looked to be no way back for a Kilkenny defence that looked vulnerable every time their opponents attacked.
Remarkably, Séamus Callanan bettered Fennelly’s tally with 3-6 and still ended up on the losing side. Mark Kelly grabbed Kilkenny’s fourth goal in the second half and then Fennelly added a fifth in the closing stages to steal a superb win for the Cats.
