Tipperary Supporters Club All Ireland Under 16 Championship
The Tipperary Supporters Club is delighted to be the sponsor since 2006 of the All Ireland Under 16 Championship. While the Supporters Club exists primarily to support the Senior Hurling team, the future of that team depends on the talent coming through from underage level and the Club wants to contribute to nurturing that talent in a focussed and useful way. Building on previous sponsorship of Tipperary GAA Bord na nÓg activities, we brought this to a new level in 2006 by agreeing to become the sponsor of the All Ireland Under 16 Hurling Championships which had previously been sponsored by Arrabawn. The competition has official recognition from the GAA as the All Ireland Championship and it is organised and run in County Tipperary in August each year by Tipperary GAA Bord na nÓg.
We were doubly delighted when Tipperary emerged as the winners of the first Tipperary Supporters Club All Ireland Under 16 Championship in 2006. This victory was followed up by a further win for Tipperary in 2007 (see attached photograph of presentation ceremony). With Tipperary also winning the All Ireland Minor Championship in both of those years, the future supply of talented young hurlers looks positive.
We would like to congratulate Tipperary Bord na nÓg on the great work which they do in promoting hurling and to thank their Chairman, Michael Lonergan, and his officers, for their enthusiastic response to our sponsorship. This sponsorship is part of support of more than €10,000 annually by the Supporters Club for underage activities including support for the Minor and Under 21 teams and the Junior Membership Scheme.
