The Tipperary County Board Convention took place this afternoon (Sunday) at the Thurles Sarsfields Centre. Outgoing County Chairman John Costigan stood down after a three year term and was replaced by Vice-Chairman Barry O’Brien from the Fr. Sheehys Club. John Costigan replaced Con Hogan as Tipperary’s Central Council representative. Sean Nugent (Kilsheelan-Kilcash) defeated John Sherlock (Silvermines) in a contest for the Vice-Chairman position while Ger Ryan (Templederry Kenyons) replaces Ed Donnelly (Moycarkey-Borris) as Public Relations Officer. Michael Bourke (Upperchurch-Drombane) became the new County Development Officer. Tom Maher (Moyne-Templetuohy) is the new Assistant Secretary while John O’Donovan (Thurles KRF) becomes the Assistant Treasurer.

A large number of motions were debated. Motion 13 from the Fr. Sheehy’s GAA Club – “That the captain of the county senior and intermediate teams  from  the year 2010 and  onwards will be nominated by the team manager and selectors” was passed by a vote of 96-30 (76% majority).
