From Tipperary GAA Scene
Congratulations to the Tipperary under 21 hurlers and management team on their magnificent win in Saturday’s All Ireland under 21 hurling final against Galway. The 25 point victory margin was the largest margin ever in a final and is a great tribute to the skill, commitment and ambition of the players and the quality of preparation and coaching undertaken by the management team of Ken Hogan, TJ Connolly, Tommy Dunne and William Maher. Seven players – Michael Cahill, Michael Heffernan, Seamus Hennessy, Brendan Maher, Padraic Maher, Patrick Maher and Noel McGrath – join that select group who have won All Ireland medals at minor, under 21 and senior. That is indeed a marvellous achievement. Padraic Maher became the first Thurles Sarsfields player to captain Tipperary to an All-Ireland title at Under 21 level and the first since Jimmy Doyle brought home the MacCarthy Cup in 1965 to bring an All-Ireland hurling trophy to Thurles. It was Tipperary’s first title since 1995 at this grade and their 9th overall, bringing them level with Galway. Kilkenny and Cork top the roll of honour with 11 titles each.
