THIRD LEVEL COLLEGES AND WIT GAA SCHOLARSHIPS

 

University College Cork (UCC) defeated the University of Limerick (UL) by 1-9 to 1-8 in the Higher Education Division 1 Hurling League final played at Newtownshandrum last week. 9 of the 30 players who started the game were from the Premier County, three more than any other County. The UCC team included full-back Shane Walsh (Fethard), wing-back Michael Cahill (Thurles Sarsfields, scorer of 1 point from play) and wing-forward Shane Bourke (JK Brackens). The UL team included goalkeeper Patrick McCormack (Thurles Sarsfields), corner-back Brian Fox (Eire Og Annacarty), full-back James Heffernan (Clonoulty-Rossmore), centre-back Jim Bob McCarthy (Golden-Kilfeacle), wing-back Thomas Stapleton (Templederry Kenyons) and centre-forward Ryan O’Dwyer (Cashel King Cormacs).

WIT GAA SCHOLARSHIPS

The Waterford Institute of Technology recently announced a total of 30 GAA Scholarships for the 2008 / 2009 school year. The Tipperary recipients are as follows – Brian O’Meara (Kilruane MacDonaghs – Hurling), Therese Shortt (Drom & Inch – Camogie – Munster Council Scholarship), Timmy Hammersley (Clonoulty-Rossmore – Hurling – Munster Council Scholarship), Michael Sheedy (Portroe – Hurling – Munster Council Scholarship), Ray McLoughney (Kilruane MacDonaghs – Hurling – Munster Council Scholarship) and Stephen Lillis (Thurles Sarsfields – Hurling – Munster Council Scholarship).
