There will be an attractive National League double header in Thurles next Sunday when the Tipperary footballers take on Louth in the next step in their so far successful quest to be promoted and the hurlers take on a resurgent Dublin, managed by Anthony Daly, who has former Tipperary captain Richard Stakelum as one of his selectors. The football game commences at 1.45pm and the hurling follows at 3.45pm. With the footballers fine performances so far putting them on top of Division 3, a win against Louth would guarantee them promotion to Division 2 for next year.

The hurlers share the top of Division 1 with Kilkenny and Dublin so the 26th meeting in the National Hurling League of Tipp and Dublin will have a crucial impact on each team’s chances of staying in contention for one of the slots in the NHL final. In their previous 25 NHL meetings, Tipp won 16 times, Dublin won 6 and there were 3 draws. Their last meeting took place in April 2007 in Nenagh when Tipp won by 4-15 to Dublin’s 1-9. Dublin’s last win was in October 1989 in Croke Park on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-9. The last draw was in the 1974/75 season in Croke Park when they tied at 1-11 each.
