Kelly urges GAA to buy Hayes Hotel

FORMER GAA President Sean Kelly has called on Croke Park chiefs to buy Hayes Hotel in Thurles to celebrate the Association’s 125th anniversary.

Kelly believes, the landmark building which housed the first meeting of the GAA in 1884, should be preserved as "a rich and vital piece of our cultural heritage".

Said Kelly: "I believe the GAA should buy Hayes Hotel and keep it as a hotel museum and possibly house offices for various arms of the Association. After all, we have the expertise.

"We can’t just keep hoping that all future proprietors [of Hayes Hotel] will be as proud and generous to the GAA as the present and past proprietors have been."
