FITZGIBBON CUP AND RYAN CUP THIRD LEVEL COLLEGES HURLING

Congratulations to UCC on bridging an 11 year gap to win their 40th Fitzgibbon Cup title last weekend. They overcame Waterford IT in the semi-final with a sensational injury time goal to win by a single point and then had a comprehensive 9 point win over University of Limerick in the final. UL defeated Cork IT in their semi-final. Michael Cahill (Thurles Sarsfields) and Shane Bourke (JK Brackens) played for UCC in both semi-final and final. Shane Walsh (Fethard) and James Logue (Ballingarry) were also on the UCC panel. Eddie Enright (Thurles Sarsfields) was a selector with UCC. UL had six Tipperary players in their starting line-up for the final: Paddy McCormack (Thurles Sarsfields), Brian Fox (Éire Óg, Annacarty), Jim Bob McCarthy (Golden-Kilfeacle), Thomas Stapleton (Templederry Kenyons), Michael Gleeson (Thurles Sarsfields) and Ryan O’Dwyer (Cashel King Cormacs). Kevin Lannigan (Carrick Swans) came on as a sub.

RYAN CUP THIRD LEVEL COLLEGES B HURLING

Mary Immaculate College Limerick won the Ryan Cup last weekend by defeating University of Ulster, Jordanstown by 1-12 to 1-5. Mary I defeated Tralee IT in their semi-final. Tipperary players on the Mary I panel were: Shane McGrath (Ballinahinch), Brendan Maher (Borris-Ileigh), Darragh Egan (Kildangan), John Coghlan (Moyne-Templetuohy), Cathal Dooley (Borrisokane), Kevin Moran (Moycarkey-Borris), Kevin Prendergast (Killenaule) and Eoin Buckley (Emly). Brendan Maher was chosen as Man of the Match in the final.
