TIPPERARY V CORK SENIOR HURLING
FROM TIPPERARY GAA SCENE BY GER RYAN

Congratulations to the Tipperary senior hurlers on their victory over Cork by 1-22 to 0-24 in the Munster senior hurling championship semi-final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday last. It was Tipperary’s second win over Cork in 9 meetings at Páirc Uí Chaoimh and the first time that Tipperary held Cork goalless for 2 successive championship matches, the score in Thurles last year was 3-22 to 0-23 in favour of Tipperary. Tipperary will now play Waterford in the Munster senior hurling final for the third time in 4 years and will be looking to secure victory for the third time also having already defeated the Deise in the 2009 and 2011 finals. Tipperary and Waterford have won the last 5 Munster finals between them. The final will be played in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday July 15 at 4pm.

TIPPERARY V CORK INTERMEDIATE HURLING

Congratulations to the Intermediate hurling team and management on their 3-18 to 2-16 victory over Cork in the Munster semi-final on Sunday last. They will now take on defending Munster and All Ireland champions Clare at MacDonagh Park Nenagh on Wednesday July 25th.

MUNSTER SENIOR AND MINOR HURLING FINAL TICKET DRAWS

With our Senior, Intermediate and Minor teams qualified for the Munster Finals we would ask you to show your support by renewing your Tipperary Supporters Club membership or taking an extra membership or two to pass on to friends or family. All current members on Saturday week 7 July will be entered in to the draws for five pairs of stand tickets for the Senior and Minor Finals. See below for details.

Directions to Cork Constitution FC approaching from Dublin

1. Take the2nd exit onto the N25 (signposted South Ring) at the Jack Lynch Tunnel.
2. Take the1st exit (signposted Mahon, Blackrock), then at traffic signals turn rightonto the R852.
3. Continuestraight on this road going past Mahon Point Shopping Centre on the R852.
4. Turn lefton to the skehard road and continue straight until you come to a roundabout.
5. At theroundabout at the top of the skehard road take the 2nd exit. You will passby the Silver Key bar – R852.
6. Cork ConstitutionFC is on the left at the top of the hill.

TIPPERARY V OFFALY SENIOR FOOTBALL

Good luck to the Tipperary senior football team and management for the qualifier game against Offaly at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening next at 7pm. TIPPERARY V KERRY ELECTRIC IRELAND MUNSTER MINOR FOOTBALL FINAL

Good luck to the Tipperary minor footballers for the Electric Ireland Munster minor football final against Kerry at Páirc na nGael, Limerick on Sunday July 8 at 12 noon. It will be followed by the Munster senior football final between Cork and Clare. Tipperary will be seeking to retain the Munster minor football title for the first time since 1935 when they were also defending All Ireland champions. Tipperary defeated Kerry in the first round at Tralee by 2-9 to 0-8 and then defeated Cork in the semi-final at Páirc Uí Chaoimh by 1-10 to 0-9. Kerry qualified for the final by defeating Clare by 0-17 to 3-4 at Cusack Park in Ennis. Kerry are seeking their 42nd Munster minor title while Tipperary are looking to win their 7th title.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

The first round of the county senior hurling championship will be played over the next week. On Saturday June 30 there will be a double header at the Ragg with Moycarkey- Borris playing Burgess at 2pm and Holycross/ Ballychaill playing Kildangan at 3.30pm. On Sunday July 1, there will be double header at Templemore with Lorrha-Dorrha playing Carrick Davins at 2pm and Upperchurch-Drombane playing Moneygall at 3.30pm. On Sunday at 7pm Portroe or Roscrea (which ever loses North quarter final) will play Boherlahan Dualla at Drombane (if Portroe) or at Littleton (if Roscrea). On Monday July 2 at 7.30pm Borris-Ileigh or Templederry Kenyons (which ever loses North quarter final) will play Golden Kilfeacle or Cappawhite (which ever loses West quarter final) at Drombane. On Wednesday July 4 at 7.30pm Kilruane MacDonaghs will play Knockavilla Kickhams or Eire Og Annacarty (whichever loses West quarter-final) at Templetuohy. On Saturday July 7 Borrisokane will play Aherlow at the Ragg at 7pm. Extra time will be played in all games and please check the Tipperary GAA website,www.tipperary.gaa.ie for any late changes to fixture details. The losers of the 8 games go into the Seamus O Riain Cup.

FUN CYCLE IN AID OF MINOR FOOTBALLERS

The Friends of Tipperary Football are running a fun cycle in aid of the Tipperary Minor Footballers on Saturday July 21st. The cycle will start at the Nenagh Eire Og GAA Complex at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh at 9.30am and proceed to Clonmel via Roscrea, Templemore, Thurles, Horse & Jockey, Cashel and Cahir. It will culminate with a family fun day at the GAA Centre in Clonmel commencing at 3.30pm which will include a BBQ, Music and Children’s events. All are welcome to participate for some or all of the 132km route. Entry fee is €20 or sponsorship cards are also available. TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW

The June Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw will take place this Friday night June 30 in the Norebrook Lounge Clonakenny at 10pm. On the night there are 2 cars to be won as well as 25 Cash prizes of €500 each. We are reminding all clubs that it’s still not to late to join the draw and remember the promoters draw is coming up in July so be sure to have 10 or more members on your card to qualify for the Skoda car draw. If you are unable to attend then tune in to Tipp FM on Friday night at 10.30pm for a live update from Clonakenny, results will also be sent out via text to all promoters and co-ordinators on the night along with further results updates on Tipp FM and Tipp Mid West on Saturday.

MUNSTER COLLEGES DRAWS 2012/2013.

The draws for the 2012/13 Munster colleges senior hurling and football A competitions have been made. There are 5 Tipperary schools in the Dr. Harty Cup A hurling which will commence on September 19. There are 21 schools in total in the competition. Clonmel CBS (High School) are in Group A with De La Salle Waterford, Castletroy CC, Ard Scoil Ris, St. Colman’s Fermoy and Kerry Colleges. Our Lady’s Templemore and Abbey CBS Tipperary are in Group B with Blackwater CC Lismore, West Limerick Colleges and Charleville CBS. Nenagh CBS and Thurles CBS are in Group C with Midleton CBS, Colaiste Criost Ri Cork and HHS Bandon. Group D which has no Tipperary schools includes Dungarvan CBS, Doon CBS, Gael Cholaiste Mhuire Cork, St. Flannan’s Ennis and St. Caimin’s Shannon. Clonmel CBS are Tipperary’s only representatives in the Corn Ui Mhuiri A football and they are in Group B with PS Choirca Dhuibhne, West Limerick Colleges and North Clare Schools. There are 14 schools spread over 4 groups – 2 of 4 teams and 2 of 3 in the football competition.

UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK GAA HISTORY

The University of Limerick is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the Academic year 2012/2013. To commemorate the GAA Club in those 40 years a history of the University of Limerick’s GAA Club is being researched and written. For any past members of the GAA Club, those writing the history are interested in hearing stories of involvement in the GAA Club and also receiving photos or any other relevant information. LONDON GAA CLUB MICHAEL CUSACKS

A relatively new London based GAA Club, Michael Cusacks which was formed in 2009 and is based in West London approximately 20 minutes from Heathrow Airport is looking to attract players living in that part of London. Michael Cusacks won the London Intermediate hurling championship and Division 2 League title last year. There are a number of players from Tipperary involved in the club. MEMORIAL MASS FOR THE LATE DONAL O’BRIEN

There will be a Memorial Mass for the late Donal O’Brien of Knockavilla Kickhams, Tipperary and New York and his brother, Jimmy, both of whom died in April, at Knockavilla Church on Saturday June 30 at 7.30pm. Donal won All Ireland senior hurling medals as a goalkeeper with Tipperary in 1961 and 62. He was on the All Ireland winning minor hurling panel of 1957 and also played minor in 1958. He died suddenly on a visit to London to see his brother Jimmy who passed away within a couple of weeks of Donal’s death. Jimmy was interred in London and Donal in New York.
